Seann, who is of Scottish, English and German ethnicity, was born in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. His parents are Patricia Anne Scott, a homemaker, and William Frank Scott, a factory worker. Seann is the youngest child out of seven. Both his parents had three children from a previous marriage each before he was born. He graduated from Park High School right at his hometown in Cottage Grove and attended Glendale Community College in Glendale, California.

On March 16, 2011, Seann was admitted to a treatment facility or as some have said, rehab, for “health and personal issues”. His agent declined to give any information. He was discovered at a talent competition held in Los Angeles and was flown to New York by ABC to audition for All My Children. In the American Pie series, he plays Steve Stifler. He happened to be working at a Home Depot, struggling for small time TV roles when he was luckily cast in American Pie. Other films he starred in are Final Destination, Road Trip, Dude, Where’s My Car?, Evolution, The Rundown, The Dukes of Hazzard, Role Models, Cop Out and Goon (2011).
